The Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth (VFHY) is committed to involving Virginia’s communities in the effort to prevent tobacco use by youth. Local community programs provide direct interaction with young people throughout their childhoods and are a key element in changing youth attitudes about tobacco use. This change in attitude will ultimately help prevent the initiation of tobacco use by young people.
BGCHR was awarded a three-year grant of $150,000 to implement a tobacco prevention program, which will begin in August of 2018. We will be utilizing the Positive Action Program, which is an evidence-based, integrated, comprehensive and coherent system that includes program components for schools, families, and communities to use that will promote positive actions for the whole self: physical, intellectual, social and emotional, as well as improving their wellness, success and happiness.
